Running a store of this size is quite a challenge, but it’s a challenge I thrive on. The key to a well-stocked store and happy customers is having the right people in place and ensuring they’re all happy and confident in their roles. So an important aspect of my role is providing the leadership that brings everyone together, keeps them motivated and ensures they deliver the kind of customer service that keeps our customers coming back for more.

Because jobs in store management are so diverse, no two days are ever the same. I might begin the day by walking through what needs to be done with the management team, and that’s not just the operational things on the shop floor. We’ll also go over marketing initiatives, see what’s working and see what’s coming up, or we might talk about employee engagement, how effective it is – it is truly absolutely critical to everything we do that people are happy and engaged. So training and development is another area where I need the complete picture. This is all part of maintaining a high performance management culture, where we can help and encourage people to achieve their potential. I enjoy my job in store management, but the thing I still enjoy most is building relationships with key customers. It’s great to still be hands-on and keeps my finger on the pulse when it comes to our customers and their changing needs.
