Running a department like this isn’t the easiest job in the world – but I do like a challenge. It’s fast-paced, there’s a lot to do and, being in business themselves, our customers are quite demanding. So it’s great for me and the team when we see them coming back again and again. Fortunately, I love the fast pace of life here and I think I do a good job of motivating the team.
To start off my daily warehouse supervisor jobs, I will get the team together, go over figures and sort out points for action. Good presentation and housekeeping are just as important to sales as good stock levels and great customer service, so there are a lot of things to juggle. I’ve got a great team and I need to make sure they’re in the right place at the right time. I’ve been involved with their training right from when they joined us and I’m always looking at opportunities to develop them. I aim to be supportive and engaging and create a positive culture that’s professional yet fun. Makro is very much all about people – whether customers or colleagues – so we’re always thinking about ways we can be better for everyone.
